Borough Based Work

Each of the 33 London municipalities provides community safety services. However, there is not a standard approach to this work; each one providing services in different ways in partnership with their borough based police service.

To an extent this differential approach is intentional – as the municipality based partnerships have identified to tackle different crime and disorder reduction priorities and have used whatever resources - short, medium or long term that have come to hand

Because of this approach to the development of crime and disorder reduction there is no benchmark standard for a programme of essential crime and disorder reduction activities. There is also only limited co-ordination and partnership working across borough boundaries; although there is increasing co-operation between boroughs and some cross boundary working.

In addition to core crime and disorder work undertaken by both individual local agencies - who are often part of Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs) there are voluntary organisations, within most boroughs providing victim support services, community and police consultation groups and other crime prevention and criminal justice process link services.
